Acclaimed for performing repertoire ranging from orchestral literature to experimental electronic music, flutist and composer Dr. Melissa Keeling is a Trevor James International Flute Artist based in the New York City area. She is also the leader of SONYQ, an electric flute project; SONYQ's debut solo album was released in 2010. Dr. Keeling is active on YouTube, and her music videos have gained over 750,000 views worldwide. Melissa is an Endorsed Artist by K&K Sound.
In this community event, Dr. Keeling will perform a recital featuring her compositions for electronics and flute. After her recital, she will give a master class on electronic music. She will assist performers with improvisation, extended techniques and using electronic music to enhance artistry.
To attend the concert and audit the workshop, the fee is $20. The fee for workshop performers is $35.00, which includes concert admission. Dr. Keeling has provided scores for her most popular compositions. Registered performers will receive copies of these works to choose from for their performances in the class. Contemporary pieces with the use of extended techniques are welcome.
